The founder of Theranos, Elizabeth Holmes, has been sentenced to more than 11 years in prison for deceiving investors in the blood-testing startup.

In the early part of this year, she was convicted of three counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit fraud.

The startup had claimed that its Edison machine could scan for hundreds of diseases with just a few drops of blood, but the technology did not work.

Elizabeth Holmes, who was the founder of Theranos was once rated as a female version of Steve Jobs prior to her conviction for defrauding investors who funded her now-defunct blood-testing corporation. She was sentenced to more than 11 years in prison on Friday 18th November 2022.

Holmes, who was wearing a black skirt and dark blouse, was handed 135 months behind bars by US District Judge Edward Davila in the exact San Jose, Calif., courtroom where a jury initially convicted her on four counts of investment fraud and conspiracy in January.

Moments after the ruling, Holmes turned to hug her crying mother. She was seen being comforted by her partner and her father after the sentence was given to her.
