The new Disney+ series “Secret Invasion” is coming out on June 21st and it sounds like it’s going to be amazing. The show has Ben Mendelsohn from Captain Marvel and it’s made for older viewers.
Ben Mendelsohn said the show definitely lives up to the name “Secret Invasion.” He joked, “You can’t call it ‘Secret Invasion’ without an actual invasion, right?” It looks like some aliens have infiltrated Earth, and Mendelsohn hinted that “something has definitely made its way in.”
Mendelsohn is joining Samuel L. Jackson again, who’s playing Nick Fury. In the show, Fury comes back from space to stop shapeshifting Skrulls from taking over powerful positions on Earth. Even though it has aliens, Mendelsohn said it feels like a classic Cold War thriller combined with Marvel superheroes. Mendelsohn plays Talos, a good Skrull who helped Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel. He hopes this show becomes one of Marvel’s best for adult fans.
The show follows up on Captain Marvel, where Talos and other Skrulls came to Earth in the 90s and disguised themselves as humans. At first, Nick Fury and Carol thought they were bad guys but it turned out the Skrulls were refugees looking for a new home after losing their planet. Talos pretended to be Fury on Earth in Spider-Man: Far From Home while the real Fury was in space helping the Skrulls. But now, some radical Skrulls have started their own invasion of Earth.
Even though Talos has made a life on Earth, Mendelsohn said “things have been tough” after Endgame. He wants Fury to help deal with the situation. The show brings back Maria Hill, War Machine and Everett Ross along with new characters like an MI6 agent played by Olivia Colman. Kingsley Ben-Adir plays the main villain, a Skrull named Gravik who can multiply himself. Mendelsohn hinted that Talos won’t be happy with Gravik.
Emilia Clarke from Game of Thrones plays an older version of Talos’ daughter from Captain Marvel. Mendelsohn praised Clarke’s performance but said her character might not fully agree with Talos. The show will also connect to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. somehow.
