Shakira has released a new song, “BZRP Music Session #53”, in which she appears to express her feelings about her ex-partner Gerard Piqué and his new girlfriend. The track is a collaboration with Argentine DJ Bizarrap and features lyrics in which Shakira references her past relationship with Piqué and the media attention that followed their split.
In the song, Shakira sings, “You left me the in-laws as my neighbors/ Media outlets at my door and in debt/ You thought you hurt me, but you made me stronger/ Women don’t cry anymore, they cash in.” She also references Piqué’s new relationship, singing, “[I wish you good luck with my supposed replacement] [I don’t even know what happened to you.] [You are so strange that I can’t even distinguish you] [I’m worth two of 22-year-old] [You traded a Ferrari for a Twingo] [You traded a Rolex for a Casio.]”
Shakira and Piqué had been together for 11 years and have two children together. They announced their split in June 2022. In an interview with Elle that September, Shakira said that the breakup had been “incredibly difficult” and that writing music was a way for her to process and make sense of her emotions.
