Following the unfortunate passing of their former drummer Taylor Hawkins, the Foo Fighters have introduced their new percussionist, esteemed session musician Josh Freese.

The band unveiled this news in a light-hearted livestream titled “Foo Fighters: Preparing Music for Concerts” on Sunday, which promised a few surprises. Recorded in their studio, the livestream began with the band teasing the identity of their new drummer by featuring various famous cameos.
Chad Smith, the drummer of Red Hot Chili Peppers, made a lively entrance, humorously complaining about someone blocking his way in the car park. Tommy Lee of Motley Crue appeared with a food delivery, while Danny Carey of Tool arrived accompanied by a pair of poodles.
Eventually, the proceedings were interrupted by a voice, and the camera revealed a visibly exasperated Freese, who had been patiently waiting off-camera behind a drum kit. Interrupting, he exclaimed, “Excuse me! Could we just, like… play a song?”
The livestream showcased an eight-song set, including new tracks from Foo Fighters’ upcoming 11th album, titled But Here We Are.
Back in January, the band had announced their decision to remain together and continue performing following the untimely passing of Hawkins at the age of 50 while on tour in Colombia. In a statement, they expressed their gratitude for Hawkins’ influence on their musical journey, acknowledging that their future as a band would be different without him.
