Which comedian is suing Meta and Open AI for copyright violation?
Which comedian is suing Meta and Open AI for copyright violation?
A Amy Schumer
B Taylor Tomlinson
C Sarah Silverman
And the correct answer is: Sarah Silverman.
Sarah Silverman, a prominent US comedian and author, has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, and Meta, owned by Mark Zuckerberg, for alleged copyright infringement. Silverman, along with authors Christopher Golden and Richard Kadrey, claims that their copyrighted works were used without their permission to train the AI models developed by OpenAI and Meta. The lawsuit states that the authors’ works were obtained from “shadow library” sites which have long been used by the AI-training community.
The lawyers representing the authors have expressed concern about the “uncanny” ability of ChatGPT to generate text similar to copyrighted material, and are also representing two more US authors in a separate class action lawsuit against OpenAI. In addition, Getty Images is suing the company behind AI image generator Stable Diffusion, and three artists are suing image generators Stability AI, Midjourney, and DeviantArt. The lawsuits also extend to the false answers, or “hallucinations”, that AI models can be prone to issuing. OpenAI and Meta have not yet commented on the matter.
